DJ Spotlight of the Week: Luke Hill and Alex Seyb

General Manager

Name of show: Morning Vibes, on Wednesdays from 7-8 a.m.

Three words to describe your show: Contemporary, upbeat and fresh.

What can we expect to hear on your show?
Luke and Alex: We like to play contemporary rock, folk and a lot of classics. We have similar tastes in music, so we collaborate and compile music that we think work well together. Our show is based on the idea of getting people up and moving, so we try and play music that has that vibe. After we have the list of songs, we order them based on sound; we try and end our show with an upbeat and fun song. Our show also focuses on bands that have recently played in D.C. or have upcoming concerts.

Your most memorable concert?
Luke: Seeing Jack White at Freefest was amazing.
Alex: I saw The Walkmen at the 9:30 Club Oct 5. The band is great live.

Who were some of your favorite musicians in middle school?
Luke: The White Stripes, The Who and Bobby Darin and Frank Sinatra were some of my favorites.
Alex: I listened to a lot of Modest Mouse, Bob Marley and Oasis.

Favorite throwback:
Luke: “Foreplay/Long Time” by Boston

Alex: “Oh! Sweet Nuthin’” by Velvet Underground

Fun fact:
Luke: I like to cook. The best dish that I make is a roasted chicken and pasta with pesto cream sauce. Oh, and my saut̩ed asparagus with bacon is a good one, too.
Alex: Well, I’m from Idaho. I’m one of the few people that don’t live on a potato farm … but actually.

Favorite D.C. venue:
Luke: Black Cat, I went to an awesome Dr. Who-themed party.
Alex: 9:30 Club, I went to see Dr. Dog there and it was spectacular.

Album recommendation:
Luke: The new Dr. Dog EP “Wild Race.” I went to school in Philly and they have a huge following there. Dr. Dog is so upbeat and fun, it’s something that you can sing to.
Alex: “D” by White Denim. It’s a fun take on psychedelic rock.

Dream concert lineup:
Luke: The Black Keys, Otis Redding and Warren Zevon. Also, I would want to go to the concert with Abraham Lincoln, the concert experience would automatically be enhanced. I’d do anything if Abraham Lincoln were involved.
Alex: My Morning Jacket, Wilco and Neil Young and the Crazy Horse. I’ve seen all of them in concert, so I’d love to see them all together. I’d bring along Woody Guthrie — we’d have lots of fun together.

Video of the Week:
Luke: “Freestyle” by Danny Brown

Alex: “God Is Gonna Cut You Down” by Johnny Cash
