When Dipset announced their reunion on November 15, it was a big shock for the Harlem rap group‰’s fans who hadn’t heard new music from the original members in over a decade. Their single “Once Upon A Time‰” was met with positive reception and excitement. However not everyone was so ecstatic about Dipset and specifically Cam‰’ron‰’s return to rap. Just a week later Mase, former Bad Boy artist – allegedly turned pastor – released a diss track “The Oracle‰” coming directly at Cam‰’ron. The diss track left many confused as to why and when these two men started beefing again. Many remember the beef the two men had in the mid-2000‰’s. However as both rappers had disappeared from public consciousness so, has their beef.

When Mase dropped his diss track, it was surprising to most hip hop fans who did not think they would ever hear new (secular) music from him. On the track Mase accuses Cam of being a shady friend as well as sleeping with his own sister. “The Oracle‰” galvanized old hip hop heads who were excited to finally be hearing some “real music.‰” After the wave of confusion passed, the song was met with positive response and generated interest in these two artists that had not been seen for a while.

Cam‰’s response track dropped just two days later. It failed to impress, and many were disappointed in the man they considered to be a hip hop legend. However Cam did respond to one specific accusation by saying that in fact the only sister he had been sleeping with was Mase‰’s.

A few days after his diss track fell short of expectations Cam headed to the Breakfast Club to explain his side of the beef and let everyone know that he has plenty of stories about Mase. He claimed not to care about Mase or anyone else opinions, however he did spend a lot of the interview clarifying his side of all the stories Mase brought up in “The Oracle.‰” The next week Mase visited Angie Martinez on the same radio station and made the it sound like the beef had been going on privately for years. Mase explained that he was tired of having a behind the scenes beef and decided to drop the track to make it public.

Although the entirety of this beef seems like a reason for some old rappers to get their streaming numbers up, it was entertaining to see two middle aged men go at for a few days. After Mase purportedly supposedly found God in 1999, moved to Atlanta and retired from rap to become a pastor, his few attempts at a comeback have not been very successful. It doesn’t look like this attempt will be any different. Despite Cam‰’s disappointing response track, he is still at the end of the day a more relevant artist. A year from now when all of this is forgotten and Dipset drops their next project, I don‰’t think anyone will be calling Mase to hear what he thinks about it.
