Although 2017 has been seemingly an endless spiral of toxicity, with every year of hardship forges amazing creativity. SolÌÁna Imani Rowe, known as SZA has been no exception to that rule. Ringing in 5 Grammy nominations, SZA is the most nominated female this year. Through her much-deserved accolades, one song cannot go unnoticed, “Love Galore.‰” What the artist describes herself as “relaxed tropical bop,‰” soon became a track stuck on repeat this summer. The song describes the perils of a fling gone bad, the all too familiar feeling of swearing someone off, only to find yourself back at the same place. SZA describes it best,

“This song is about being played by a dude, this whole song is about being played out by a guy who thought he was cuter than you, who thought he had it all together.‰Û

This theme is obvious in the hook of the song, when SZA asks the important questions every woman would like to know the answers to.

“Why you bother me when you know you don‰’t want me? Why you bother me when you know you got a woman? Why you hit me when you know you know better?‰Û

2017 has been a big year for women in R&B, and “Love Galore‰” is the perfect encapsulation of that. Although “Love Galore‰” speaks for itself on its own, it is perhaps most notable for the music video. To be frank, the only think inhabiting the writing of this article was me watching it on repeat for three days in a row. It features SZA and Travis Scott, who is featured in the track cuddled up and surrounded by monarch butterflies. SZA‰’s dominance (no pun intended) in this video is unmistakable between Scott‰’s shy demeanor contrasted with her eyes dominating each frame. That doesn‰’t even begin to touch upon later in the video in which SZA ties Scott to a bed and hires an assassin to kill him. Her explanation? Well, she‰’s a Scorpio.
