People go to concerts for various reasons. Whether it be a creative release, something to do with friends or family, part of your job, or just to have fun there’s a certain expectation of enjoying your time. Another aspect of concerts is the community of people who you meet there. I have been lucky enough to meet some of the most interesting people who I have ever met at concerts but I have also met or been around some of the worst people seemingly on the face of the Earth. You never know who you’re going to end up next to.

Much of the time, the crowd can make or break a concert experience. If you’re surrounded by people who are there to listen to good music and interact with everyone at the venue in a respectful way, then the chances of having a good time skyrocket. On the other hand, it only takes one or two people to ruin it for everyone.

To avoid being that person, here is a list of tips and tricks that I have picked up from concerts that I’ve been to:

1. Respect people’s personal space.

Even in a crowded concert situation, it’s possible to respect people’s personal space.

2. Don’t try to shove your way up to the front.

If you want to get a spot up close, get there early. Don’t push people who have been there longer than you out of the way.

3. Don’t scream the lyrics at the top of your lungs the whole concert.

It’s fine for a couple of songs but when it’s persistent, you won’t make friends with the people around you.

4. Don’t touch people’s hair.

This technically falls under the personal space category but unfortunately it has to be reiterated.

5. If you’re smoking, don’t blow it in someone’s face.

Just common decency.

6. Give people a heads up before moshing.

Not everyone wants to get hit.

7. Don’t grab someone you don’t know.

Again, falls under personal space but it’s way too common.

Overall, a little respect for people’s space and experience can go a long way. Don’t be the person who ruins the experience for someone else and be conscientious of how your actions affect others. Avoid these concert sins and you should be able to not only have a good time yourself but also make sure that the people around you have a good time as well!
