Capitol Boogie Preview: Dosser at American University

March 27, 2023

It’s that time of year again: midterms have come to a close, and now, it’s time to have fun. It’s time for Capitol Boogie.

Baltimore alt-rock band Dosser is headlining this semester’s Capitol Boogie. Self-described as “Baltimore Maryland’s loudest alternative rock & roll band” in their Instagram bio, they most recently released their first full-length album, “Violent Picture / Violent Sound” on Jan. 20 of this year for Really Rad Records, according to Bandcamp. Before that, they self-released an EP entitled “Brainscan” that was later remastered by Really Rad Records, as well as a live EP called “Quarantine Sessions”. They consist of co-vocalists and guitarists Bret Lanahan and William Teague, bassist Eric Dudley and drummer Max Detrich.

Dosser classifies themselves as a part of the 90s revival in alternative music happening right now. Blending guitar riffs that sound straight out of the Fugazi-esque side of the D.C. hardcore scene, heavy instrumentals reminiscent of Foo Fighters and raspy rock vocals, Dosser shows their appreciation for all different types of alternative music popular in the 90s in a tasteful and accurate way. As a 90s alt fan, I fell in love with Dosser at first listen. If you’ve ever been jealous of your parents after they casually mentioned how they got to see your favorite band from four decades ago live back when they were your age, Dosser can help you live vicariously through them.

Dosser will be joined by Combat, a Baltimore hardcore band who recently released two albums in 2022: “Text Me When You Get Back” on Mar. 18 and their Christmas album “Gold Lang Syne!” on Dec. 20.

Both Dosser and Combat regularly play shows in the DMV as well as outside of the area.

Capitol Boogie takes place in the Battelle Atrium on Friday, Mar. 31. Doors are at 7:30 p.m., and it comes at no charge to AU students. You can RSVP for the event through Engage. Women in Audio worked with WVAU to bring this event to AU.

If you like what you hear at Capitol Boogie (and trust me, you’ll want more), then you can follow Dosser and Combat on Instagram for updates about new releases and shows they’re playing in the area. Make sure to mark your calendars for a Friday night – you won’t want to miss!
