Field Medic Concert/Tour Preview – Thursday, Oct. 5

Field+Medic+Concert%2FTour+Preview+-+Thursday%2C+Oct.+5

Kevin Patrick Sullivan, more commonly known as Field Medic, is a California based singer/songwriter breathing life back into small town folk music. Even with his growing fame, Field Medic continues to nurture the made-in-your-bedroom, hazy, dreamwave sound. His carefully crafted music highlights the innocence behind the roaring feelings of being young, hopelessly in love, overwhelmed by your own thoughts, and so much more. With heartbreaking lines such as “And when he leans to kiss you/ Don’t think of me then/ ‘Cause I, I won’t love you like he can/ And you deserve attention,” Field Medic writes painfully honest songs for the hopeless, but self aware, romantics.

Field medic will be touring on his newest album Light is Gone 2, a nod to their first album, Light is Gone, released in 2015. This album is one of two releases planned for this year. This first release reaches more into the diy techno pop sound that could be found in his earlier work, while the second album is said to reach more into his folk roots. Light is Gone 2 is different from his previous work, but works as a fantastic follow up to his first album. This album adheres to the general picture that Field Medic has painted for himself. The lyrics of the album read like a close friend opening up about their complex life. In “The Look on Her Face like a Reoccuring Dream” he writes, “She’s a stranger, but I know her somehow subconsciously/ She’s a stranger, but I know her at least, that’s how it seems”. This line (along with the entire album) dissolves the wall between artist and listener in a way many artists have not been able to do before.

Field Medic’s sound is very simple, feeling almost barebones, or like demos at times. Relying heavily on his acoustic guitar and the rawness of his voice, fans understand that going to his shows is going to be an intimate experience, similar to catching up with a loved one. That is exactly why I am excited to see him live for the first time on his Light Is Gone 2 tour with opener Olivia Barton. The show will take place on Thursday, October 5th, at D.C.’s newest venue: The Atlantis. For tickets to the D.C. show, and all other dates, you can visit https://www.fieldmedic.net. This show will be a journey deep into the mind of Field Medic, and I hope to see you there.
