Mitch Rowland: Quiet Star Power

For every musical project that comes out, there is an artist who is at the forefront. With their name boldly printed across album covers and promotional materials, everyone knows who they are. Then there are those working just as hard behind the scenes to make the music special. Some artists can transition between such roles seamlessly. For Mitch Rowland, an Ohio native, the past eight years have been a dream come true for any musician. He has performed at Wembley Stadium, won Grammys and traveled the world doing what he loves. For much of this time, he has been supporting Harry Styles as his guitarist, co-writer and friend.

Though Rowland was not the main act in Styles’ shows, he did not remain in the background either. The same talent that once attracted Styles’ team to him when he filled in at the last minute for a prior guitarist attracted audiences. Mitch quickly became well-loved by both the industry and Harry Styles fans alike. Following the wrap-up of Love on Tour this past summer, Rowland set forward on a personal project.

With melodic guitar patterns, buttery vocals and an appearance comparable to Michelangelo’s Risen Christ, Mitch Rowland has been captivating audiences, new and old, on his first solo tour. The tour began in San Francisco on Feb. 25 as a follow-up to his debut album, “Come June,” which came out in October of 2023 through Styles’ independently owned label, Erskine Records. The album is a quiet, alternative indie record that is full of love, family, hope and sun after storms. It features singles “Come June” and “Bluebells” which have both seen success on streaming.

On March 11, Rowland’s North American tour will make its way to the District when he performs at the 9:30 Club. The venue, which can host 1,200 people, is one of D.C.’s premier venues. Found in the NW’s U-Street Corridor, the I.M.P location has played an integral part in many musician’s careers over the years. When Rowland takes the stage, it’ll be his first time performing at the 9:30 Club and his first time headlining in Washington, D.C. If Rowland keeps up what he has been doing, it is hard to believe it’ll be the last time the DMV sees Mitch Rowland on its list of upcoming events. Rowland is supported on this tour by opening act, Harris Harper. Tickets are $25 plus fees.
