Fans of riot grrrl rejoice – Kathleen Hanna is coming to Washington, D.C., for her U.S. book tour! On May 15, 2024, the feminist punk icon will visit Lincoln Theatre in conversation with writer Mira Jacob to support her new memoir, “Rebel Girl: My Life as a Feminist Punk.”

Kathleen Hanna is a legendary punk singer, writer and pioneer of the riot grrrl movement that exploded onto the scene throughout the United States in the early ‘90s. She is the frontwoman of the renowned and highly influential feminist-punk bands, Bikini Kill and Le Tigre; the latter of which reunited for the first time in 18 years last year for a worldwide tour. Hanna is well-known for her activism and leadership in the punk feminist movement.

Hanna’s memoir, released on May 14, embarks readers on a journey through the punk icon’s childhood, early years as a female musician and the height of the riot grrrl and underground DIY scenes in the United States throughout the ‘90s. Each ticket to the reading will include a copy of Hanna’s memoir, with extra copies available to purchase at the event.

Mira Jacob is an American writer, novelist and culture critic best known for her books “The Sleepwalker’s Guide to Dancing” and “Good Talk: A Memoir in Conversations,” the latter of which was nominated for various awards including the National Book Critics Circle Award. Jacob is the co-founder of Pete’s Readings Series, an acclaimed reading series that brings literary icons to Brooklyn every month.

Don’t miss out! The event will commence at 7 pm. Tickets are available here
