Show Spotlight: Grandmaster Flash Gordon Lightfoot with Mike Creedon

General Manager

Grandmaster Flash Gordon Lightfoot

Sundays 10am-12pm

Three artists played most on show:
Modest Mouse, Andrew Jackson Jihad, and Kanye West

First album ever purchased:
98 Degrees’ 98 Degrees and Rising for that song with Stevie Wonder that was in the Mulan soundtrack.

Favorite current rack album:
Put Your Back N 2 It – Perfume Genius, Attack on Memory – Cloud Nothings, Black and Brown – Black Milk and Danny Brown

Dream Capital Punishment:
So get this lineup I’m about to lay down: Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, Paul Baribeau, and someone from our school. Why? Because this is an awesome lineup for a realistic budget (or at least what I imagine to be, I don’t know honestly. First, people from our school draws in friends of the band and gives them an awesome opportunity to open up for some quality and known acts. Second, Paul Baribeau draws in the acoustic/twee/folk-punk crowd and HE’S JUST ONE DUDE, HE DOESN’T NEED THAT MUCH $$$$$. Third, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire brings in the crowd (plus the party) and shows the hip-hop/rap side of WVAU that isn’t completely open to the public. I also really just want to see the poster for that ridiculous lineup. If this is too much, let’s just buy a cardboard cutout of Kanye West and play his songs through a PA.

Favorite song in 8th grade:
Something off of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Greatest Hits and “Breakaway” by Kelly Clarkson.

Most memorable on-air moment at WVAU:
There’s two. The first is yelling out each “BABABABABABAAA”, “FLOCKA”, ANDBOWBOWBOWBOW” of “Hard In Da Paint” by Waka Flocka Flame on air. The second is coming in during some dead air at about midnight and playing Nick Cave and Shane Macgowan’s cover of “What a Wonderful World” and accidentally leaving it on repeat for over 5 hours. I can never listen to any version of that song again.

Last great concert you saw:
I’ve seen a few concerts since this one, but none were nearly as memorable. First semester I saw Fucked Up and Wavves on 2-going-on-3 days of no sleep. I was almost dead in the front row for Wavves, so I had to take a nice nap on the leather couch in the back of the Black Cat in between acts. Next thing I knew, I was partying all up in Damian Abraham’s hefty man sweat singing “I Hate Summer”. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen.

Favorite music video:
Zach Galifianakis’ “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” video, Big Freedia’s “Y’all Get Back Now” (RIP MAGNOLIA SHORTY), and Lil B’s “Breath Slow”.

Big Freedia – Y’all Get Back Now from Bob Weisz Sucks on Vimeo.

Dream musician dinner date:
R. Kelly at the Old Country Buffet in Brockton, Massachusetts. The entire meal would be soundtracked by his song “In The Kitchen” (please do check it out, you won’t be disappointed). The conversation would solely consist of me trying to sway him from making sweet love to every single person in the restaurant. Here’s the twist though, he’s actually looking at himself in a mirror BECAUSE WE BOUGHT OUT THE WHOLE RESTAURANT.

Final words:
The only show at WVAU from 10-12 on Sunday mornings to actively support Kreayshawn, New Orleans Bounce Music, and folk-punk simultaneously.
