Beats on Repeat: Yuksek @ U Street Music Hall

General Manager

If you wanted to get your groove on in D.C. last week, UHall was the place to be.

Presented by All Things Gold, French electro-pop trio Yuksek was joined by Brooklyn-based opener French Horn Rebellion at the U Street staple for a night of bootyshaking beats.

French Horn Rebellion promoted the show on their website, boasting “raging jazz fusion French horn/keyboard solos and a whole lot of dancing.‰” And boy, did they deliver. From the french horn solo (naturally) in the middle of the U Street Music Hall floor to an ode to Vanilla Ice‰’s groundbreaking lyrics, FHR warmed up the crowd as only the best openers can.

With the crowd all amped up and their dancing shoes ready to go for round two, Yuksek took the stage and delivered a solid, upbeat performance, taking full advantage of UHall‰’s quality sound system.

Club-bangers like “Always on the Run‰Û and “The Edge‰Û off their newest album “Living On The Edge Of Time‰” had the entire UHall crowd on their feet, smiling and dancing to the French trio‰’s catchy-as-hell beats. The one lull came when Yuksek showcased their slower tracks, only a drag because everyone wanted to continue dancing their asses off.

To say frontman Pierre-Alexander Busson is a babe is an understatement, as he surely had everyone at UHall swooning as the lyrics oozed out his mouth dans son accent Fran̤ais. Busson‰’s chemistry with his on-stage badass drummer and guitarist, keyboardist, percussionist, everything else-ist solidified the sexy happy vibes that filled the industrial cave-like venue.

Yuksek closed the night with their most recognizable track, the high energy, robotic-synth “Tonight,‰Û released on their 2009 album “Away from the Sea,‰” which only left the audience wanting more. Some gig-goers did stay for more, dancing to the in-house DJs as the rest of the crowd filtered out, coming down from the exuberant high only live music can offer.

What a Wednesday night.
