DJ Spotlight of the Week: Dana Gooley

General Manager

Name of show:åÊSeventh Inning Stretch, Mondays 12-2 p.m.! (Like and follow me on Facebook!)

Three words to describe your show:åÊVaried, rambling and cheerful.

What can we expect to hear on your show?
Sort of like alternative rock like The Black Keys and The Arctic Monkeys, but also folkier sounding stuff like The Lumineers and The Head and the Heart. Sometimes I play older songs, too, like Otis Redding or the beatles. I kick it old school.

Your most memorable concert?
Up until this November, it was a Deer Tick concert I went to where I had cake thrown in my face by a band member. But I just went to see Macklemore earlier this month. It was a game-changer.

Who were some of your favorite musicians in middle school?

I was that really, really annoying kid with the huge headphones. I hung out with the soon-to-be-hipsters group. I listened to Andrew Bird, Belle & Sebastian, and Feist. I was definitely cooler in middle school than I am now.

Favorite throwback:

“Cupid Shuffle” by Cupid

Fun fact:

I am a sucker for songs with handclaps. If you bring me a song with handclaps, I will love it.

Favorite D.C. venue:

I love the Rock & Roll Hotel because you can feel the bass shaking the floor. you know it’s a good concert when you can feel the bass in your chest. With the 9:30 Club, even when you’re front row, you still feel really far away from the band. But with the Rock & Roll Hotel, you’re right there in front of them.

Album recommendation:

Paul Simon’s “Graceland” is a huge favorite.

Dream concert lineup:

The Allman Brothers, Bruce Springsteen and Mumford & Sons.

Video of the Week:

It’s not a recent one, but I love the music video for “The Rip Tide” by Beirut.
