Orthy - E.M.I.L.Y. (Dither Dash)

Michael Lovito

Easy, breezy electro-pop

One time I was in New York City with my family, and my sister wanted to go into the big Forever 21 store, where they played a lot of generic electro/pop/house stuff that seemed to blur together into one sugary wane of numbness. Orthy‰’s music is kind of like that, but instead of writing soundtracks to your overpriced clothing purchases they seem concerned with writing actual songs. A lot of the rhythms and percussion are reminiscent of new wave, and the lush production has a certain breezy, relaxing that puts your mind at ease. A lot of the synths have retro feel to it, bringing to mind the Drive soundtrack and other love letters to 80s electro, but the ethereal vocals and guitar flourishes make E.M.I.L.Y. sound modern enough. Orthy may not be what‰’s hot on the streets, but its innocuous and earnest enough to appreciate.
