Summer Jamz: "Cheerleader" by OMI

Cheerleader” by OMI

For me, summertime reintroduces two things not present at school: driving and working in a mall. Both of those things come with a top 40 soundtrack, which usually turns mind-numbingly disastrous. But this summer I have found a reprieve from the cookie cutter madness.

Cheerleader by OMI is not only catchy but also sends out a great core message. OMI sings, “Oh I think that I found myself a cheerleader, she is always right there when I need her” about a romantic relationships, but I’ve found it can also celebrate love between two friends.

The remixes are getting even better than the original. I‰’m jamming to the version featuring Samantha J. Harmonies not present in the original punch up an otherwise one-note song, while the beats create layers that were not there before.

While it‰’s not on Spotify yet, it is on YouTube and has been playing on my local Top 40 stations. Expect it to get stuck in your head soon because Billboard is calling it “The Song Of The Summer‰Û.
