After the lights dimmed and music faded out at The Fillmore in Silver Spring, Maryland, the crowd went silent, buzzing with anticipation and energy. The venue was full, and people lined up from wall to wall. Everyone was getting ready to experience the Restoration Tour with one of Christian rap’s most renowned artists.
Before Lecrae came out, Miles Minnick, the opener, made his way to the stage. He entered the room with an intense amount of energy. You could definitely see his West Coast swagger coming through. From the bass shaking the floor to the vivid and bright visuals in the background, Miles Minnick had the crowd roaring with excitement. His uplifting lyrics that blend faith with purpose touch the souls of many. The crowd returned his energy, matched his tempo some of his hits like “The Method” and “Christlike.” By the time Miles Minnick wrapped up his performance, the energy in the air was infiltrating every part of The Fillmore, waiting for Lecrae to soon step on stage.
The lights dimmed once more, and then within a blink of an eye lights started flashing, and the opening of “Tell No Lie” started to play as Lecrae entered onto The Fillmore’s stage. Lecrae’s energy matched and then exceeded the energy that was already buzzing in the room. He dressed in all black with “Jesus Muzik” imprinted on his shirt and a chain that glinted in the light around his neck. With his crew on live drums and keyboard, and the DJ bringing in a bass that shook the room, the Resurrection Tour was both a sermon and a celebration. Lecrae rapped some of his older songs like “Church Clothes,” “I’m Turnt,” and “Spread the Opps.” Before going to some of his newer and more popular songs like “Over the Top” and closing with “I’ll Find You.”
The music felt more real, more personal, in a live setting. Everyone knew every word to every song, which made The Fillmore rock. Halfway through the concert, Lecrae brought Miles Minnick back onstage to showcase their new album that they dropped together called “Get Well Soon.” They continued to show they worship and rap can coincide by rapping to songs like “On Time” and “The Antidote.”
The lights faded once more, for good. The room was buzzing with faith, happiness, and a sense of community. Lecrae not only performed, he preached. Spreading the word of God through rap and touching the souls of many. As he walked off the stage and the lights slowly came up, fans began to trickle out of The Fillmore, leaving with high spirits and filled with faith.
