About

WHO ARE WE?

WVAU is American University’s student radio station. We broadcast online 6 a.m.-2 a.m. daily from the Mary Graydon Center in Washington, D.C.

WHAT DO WE DO?

With a staff of over 120 student DJs, WVAU offers unique musical programming and a perspective that you won’t find anywhere else. Our staff brings you daily articles and music reviews that you can find on WVAU.org. We also release our music and culture zine, The Stream, every semester. Outside of the studio, WVAU brings in local and touring artists every semester for interviews, in-studio performances, and our Capitol Boogie free concert series. All of our events are free and open to the public.

WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO WE PLAY?

WVAU focuses on showcasing independent music that you won’t hear on your traditional Top 40 station. Our live programming covers the best in indie rock, hip-hop, electronic, experimental, jazz, folk, world music and more. Our eclectic schedule doesn’t limit students to genre-specific shows, which sets WVAU apart from traditional college radio stations and gives our DJs the freedom to play whatever music they want.

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?

WVAU sends out applications for radio shows at the beginning of each semester, and all students and faculty are welcome to apply for a show. Interested in publishing your writing? WVAU.org is looking for enthusiastic bloggers and music journalists. Email [email protected] and find out how to contribute to WVAU.org, American University’s only music blog. Interested in joining our zine staff? Contact [email protected].

The easiest way to get involved with the WVAU community and support your friendly neighborhood college radio station is to attend our fantastic events, including open mics, free concerts and more. WVAU is a welcoming, fun environment of AU students passionate about music, and we want you on our schedule!

Email our General Manager Ava Leach at [email protected] with any general questions about getting involved.
