Concert of the Week: Purity Ring

General Manager

Didn’t get tickets to the sold-out Justice/Fiona Apple/Youth Lagoon/Polica shows this week? Don’t sweat it, because the Red Palace on Thursday night will be sufficiently hoarding the District’s supply of buzz for the return of “future-pop” duo Purity Ring.

While other “rising” buzz bands have long since succumbed to the pressures of signing to a major label and immediately releasing a debut album, Purity Ring are one of the few newcomers content to take their time in developing their sound. With well-received shows at CMJ and last week’s SXSW festivals and months spent on the road opening for Neon Indian, Corin Roddick and Megan James have premiered and fine-tuned their ethereal electro-pop not in a studio, but live before lucky audiences’ very eyes. What, did you think they were going to play “Lofticries” for 45 minutes?

Unbelievably, tickets are still available for this show, so haul your ass to H Street on Thursday and start your weekend early with a night of intimate lighting, heavy smoke machine action, and slinky pop from Purity Ring.
