EIS‰’s token Europeans hit all the volume levels on a pleasingly psychedelic guitar album

Disco Doom are somewhat of an outlier on the Exploding In Sound roster. For one thing, they‰’re not from the Northeast but from Switzerland. And for another, Disco Doom are a psych band. Whether in chiming sunbeams (“Zonk,‰” “Dead Eye‰Û), overwhelming fuzz (“Ex Teenager,‰” “Shannon‰Û) or twinkles (“Rice & Bones‰Û), the band‰’s guitars paint a hazy daydream, with vocals providing an unassuming foil. Very few songs pass 4 minutes; the ones that do feel decidedly epic. The rest of the shorter, intermittent tracks cover a lot of sonic ground as well, from breezy acousticisms a la Kurt Vile (“Fireplace‰Û) to ruminative piano (the last song). All in all, while Numerals‰’ short length seems to suggest some untapped potential, Disco Doom do everything right in creating an album for us ex-teenagers (and freshmen, too) to get lost in for a blissful half-hour.
