The only thing louder than the buzz is the band.

The aforementioned buzz around Perfect Pussy’s debut “Say Yes To Love” is well deserved given their rare and powerful energy. Their combination of hardcore and noise rock isn’t entirely new, but their ability to do so without compromising anything in either genre is exceptional. The album is built on a solidly hardcore frame – simple chords played extremely fast over rapid-fire drums – all covered in feedback and electric noise courtesy of Shaun Sutkus. They call him the keyboardist, but that understates the range of noise he’s responsible for, noise that takes center stage in the final track in which the band breaks from the typical punk structure. Competing with all the noise are the shouted lyrics of Meredith Graves. Her lyrics are indecipherable amid the chaos, but if you read along you’ll find a neat and poignant combination of existential angst, in-your-face hardcore fuck-yous, and riot grrrl female pride. At around 23 minutes long, the album is short and, for the most part, cohesive. The band maintains a blistering energy up until the final song and the three minutes of tape hiss that precede it.
