March 12th: Not Ready To Make Nice by The Chicks
Who remembers…
Not me particularly, since I was quite young at the time of release. But this song is so important to me. I wrote a paper on the context of this song my sophomore year at AU. If you didn’t know, The Chicks received death threats and were blacklisted from most country radio stations in their home state Texas after criticising Bush and America’s involvement in Iraq. Hello, pre-cancel culture cancel culture!
March 13th: Suddenly I See by K.T. Tunstall
Again, who remembers? This song reminds me of looking out the window in the backseat of my mom’s minivan in 2010. My sister and I listened to this on the way to Five Below with the sunroof cracked.
March 14th: Feather by Sabrina Carpenter
Sometimes you just have to have a connection to the mayor of New York City’s indictment.
March 15th: Silver Jubilee by Audrey Hobart
I have to be honest, my entire ride from New Jersey to D.C., I only listened to this one song. The rest of the ride was very podcast and YouTube centered, which I’m not proud to admit.
March 16th: Sign of the Times by Harry Styles
Sometimes you just have to lay in your bed and listen to the 8D audio of this song.
March 17th: Dreams by The Cranberries
Happy Ireland Day! I listened to lots of music from Irish artists (hello The Cranberries, hello Sinead O’Connor, hello Hozier) and watched Derry Girls. And, of course, wore green.
March 18th: Back on the Chain Gang by Pretenders
This album used to sit on the windowsill in my step-dad’s living room. Despite this, I had never listened to it in full. I still haven’t, but this one’s pretty good. My roommate and I listened on the way to the Tenleytown Target.
