Concert Preview: Lukas Nelson @ The Lincoln on 10/14

Lukas Nelson has been plucking on guitar strings since before you were born. The 36-year-old musician is best known for his band, Lukas Nelson & The Promise of the Real, and his major contributions to the Grammy-winning soundtrack of the film “A Star Is Born”. Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Lukas has been surrounded by a blend of folk and country music since birth. Heavily influenced by his father and esteemed folk musician, Willie Nelson, Lukas started playing guitar at the age of 11. He began touring with his father around the same time and quickly showed an interest in pursuing a musical career of his own.

He formed his band, Lukas Nelson & The Promise of the Real, in 2008 at 20 years old. They went on to produce eight studio albums and craft melodic Americana songs such as “Find Yourself” and “Pali Gap/Hey Baby” (which I would highly recommend). In 2024, the band amicably decided to take an extended break from producing so Lukas could pursue his solo career and distance himself from his father’s legacy that had become associated with the band.

This past summer, Lukas released his first solo album, “American Romance”, which blends the sounds and lyrical storytelling of his former music group along with blues influence and new instrumental additions such as viola, cello, fiddle, and more. The album, in connection to its name, showcases Lukas’s journey in love, relationships, personal identity, and the unwanted legacy that was imposed onto him since his start as a musician. He started touring for his album on Sept. 29 in his hometown of Austin and will be making his way to the Lincoln Theater in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 14th at 8:00 p.m. (doors at 6:30 p.m.). If you’re a sucker for that classic blend of country, blues, and folk sound, don’t miss your chance–snag some tickets here and take a night out on the town with Lukas Nelson this fall.
