Isak Danielson’s newest album, “Truly Yours, Isak,” gives us a taste of how Danielson has evolved as an artist. Danielson’s album, while still very depressing, does have some upbeat and happier songs which was very rare in Danielson’s earlier albums. The faster songs in this album, “Sweat” and “I Want a Man,” exhibit a very new sound for Danielson as he definitely specializes in slow, sad music. While these faster songs are catchy and fun, it doesn’t feel like Danielson has a firm grasp on this new side of his music. He seems to still be feeling out and playing around with this sound which is very exciting for fans as they await what more he may release with that vibe.
While the upbeat songs Danielson included in his album are fun and refreshing, his sadder songs on the album definitely stand out. The sadder songs include the other 6 of 8 songs on his album, namely, “Desperate Guy,” “Peach,” “Afloat,” “Afterparty,” “How Can I Make You Stay” and “Set you Free.” These songs are an incredible combination of riveting lyrics and moving music that had me feeling Danielson’s songs in my chest. His message of heartbreak and love is so beautifully put into music that one can feel Danielson’s anguish through his songs.
Danielson hasn’t released new music since 2022 and it seems from “Truly Yours, Isak” that he has been working hard these last two years. His newest album is just as sad as the rest of his music, making sure to continue his signature vibes. However, the production of this album is phenomenal and much more professional-sounding than his earlier albums. Additionally, this newest album has a clear story line of love and heartbreak and all that one feels in the wake of losing someone you love. This is very different from his previous albums which didn’t have clear storylines or vibes throughout the entirety of them. Overall, Danielson’s new album is a beautiful composition of music with a storyline that will break your heart and put it back together again.
