The Godfather of Punk is coming to The Anthem on September 29 at 8 p.m. Opening the night are UK up-and-comers The Molotovs (yes, like the cocktail), bringing their indie-rock energy to set the stage. Expect Iggy Pop to deliver everything from his cameo track “Punkrocker”, recently featured in the summer’s “Superman” blockbuster, to the ferocious classics of his Stooges days.
Since exploding onto the scene in the mid-’60s, Iggy has never slowed down or bothered with a shirt. With an ever-morphing backing band since The Stooges stopped touring in 2013 after their 2003 reunion, the sound of an Iggy Pop concert remains the same, with a relentless rhythm section, wild guitar, and raw vocals.
With a stage presence that’s untamed and impossible to ignore, Iggy Pop remains one of punk’s most consistent forces. This Monday night at The Anthem promises to be an exciting one with both old favorites and new ones bringing classic punk to DC. Tickets to see Iggy Pop at The Anthem on Sept. 29 are still available for purchase here. Doors are at 6:30 p.m., with the show slated to begin at 8:00 p.m. with The Molotovs opening.
