Minimalistic electro pop
Chiaroscuro, Swedish band I Break Horse’s sophomore album minimalistic approach to the usually blaring electronic indie scene. Starting out with “You Burn” which is a slow burn that drifts into “FadeÛ, I Break Horse’s creates a chill vibe that works its way through the album. In fact, Chiaroscuro is completely devoid of guitar hooks and drum beats that find a home on most standard indie electro albums. The album creates mood using mainly synthesizers and Maria Linden’s vocals keeping listeners stuck on beats inside of getting distracted on background sound as so many other artists fail to do. A personal favorite, “Denial” is a catchy piece reminiscent of an 80s arcade game while “Heart to Know” sounds like an electro lullaby. Chiaroscuro is goes against the grain of electro indie pop bands and manages to create beats that don’t get lost to background noise.
