WVAU would like to remind everyone that we work to maintain a safe space for members both inside and outside of our music community. Our duty to ensure creative spaces free of hate speech applies particularly, but not exclusively, to our events open to the community.
Given the events that took place at last night‰’s Open Mic, we would like to extend our sincerest apologies to anyone who felt hurt or uncomfortable by any of the performances that took place. While music and the arts bring a diverse group of individuals together, it is important to actively create discourse around how we can better respect that which makes us unique. It is also important that anyone participating in any of our affiliated events is held accountable to extend that respect towards others.
As we move forward past this incident, our station would like to extend an invitation to anyone who felt unsafe to reach out to us if you have any concerns. Please stop by the studio any time, or email wvaugm@gmail.com.
Again, we apologize to anyone who felt upset last night. The general managers are working on to update our organization‰’s constitution to reflect this zero-tolerance policy. We pledge to you our fullest efforts to make sure similar circumstances are not repeated.
