Very rarely do I stumble across Latin-infused electronic down tempo on my sound cloud feed, partly because I don’t actively search it, but when it does appear it’s such a breath of fresh air.
Paraguayan-born producer Santiago Ferreira (Santi), joined forces with Turkish singer TuṲ̀e KurtiÙ to collaborate on an album titled “CiclicoÛ, which “blends elements of Afro-Cuban and Brazilian rhythms, Jazz harmonies, and Electronica sound design with warm vocals and subtle melodic linesÛ. It’s the type of album that makes you wish you were dancing in the beach under the hot Cuban sun. Similarly, this album returns to the crucial Latin roots that instill a sense of nostalgia for bands like Gipsy Kings and singers like Celia Cruz, yet adds a modern electronic tempo that makes it “of today.”
“Esta CumbiaÛ, the second song of the album, perfectly embodies the potential Santi and TuṲ̀e possess. Her vocals are effortless, yet needed, and Santi’s production works around her sweet Spanish melodies. Their talent isn’t anything out of this world but it is unique because of the variety of sounds they are able to successfully blend into one song.
Electronic music doesn’t have to have a “drop” and doesn’t have to feature a girl on the mic singing the same verse over and over again so the artist can claim its diversity. This duo is genuine to their cause to bring back Latin-infused sounds with a root in Jazz and electronica.
