The modern day electro-dream-pop girl band— the 2010s version of M2M
Twin sister duo Say Lou Lou captures the listener with their accurately named electro-pop debut release, Lucid Dreaming. Breathy, soothing, layered vocals float in like a dream over piano driven pop ballads that could easily become this summer‰’s radio anthems. The album is reminiscent of Lana Del Rey, in both lyrical content (singing about glitter, sex, and the glamour of cigarettes) as well as the underlying orchestral lines. They differ, although, in their synth-ier beats and more radio ready songwriting style. The perfect, fine tuned production and poppy song structures reveal the obvious, thinly veiled desire for a mainstream breakthrough— not a bad thing, however. It‰’s easy to imagine hearing the piano driven melodies and dancy, electro beats on mainstream radio or in the hippest, most popular downtown club. Watch out for Say Lou Lou— their debut assures them a promising future career.
