“Cardinals” by The Wonder Years
Pop-punk icons, The Wonder Years, released a new music video for their single “Cardinals” off of their upcoming full-length No Closer to Heaven. I have never been a fan of the band and have definitely gone out of my way to hate on them in the past but decided to listen to the single anyway. It was a great decision. While the music video seems a bit odd, the song itself is a breath of fresh air in the pop-punk scene. The inflection in Dan “Soupy” Campbell’s vocals allows you to really feel the lyrics, something too often missing from contemporary music. Combined with the impressive drum playing of Mike Kennedy, “Cardinals” tells an emotional story that is one of the best songs released this year. The Wonder Years have come out swinging on this single and are sure to live up to the hype of their new album coming September 4.
