Music you‰’d find in 80s John Hughes movies

Austin based band The Black and the White Years provide a combination of indie rock and electro pop vibes in their album Strange Figurines. Strange Figurines manages to flow seamlessly from one song into another while avoiding monotony. “Little Ones‰” is a trippy little pop number featuring 80s-esque synthesizers and dreamy guitar hooks alongside Butler‰’s rough vocals. The album‰’s opening number “Embraces‰” sounds like something from the opening scene of a John Hughes movie. The only low point of the album would have to be its title song, which comes across as a love song that‰’s a tad too sweet for most listeners. Overall, it isn‰’t very hard to like Strange Figurines, which laces indie rock with 80s influences and pulls it off quite well, creating a nostalgic, but not dated sound.
