Getting Fraternal with Nicki Minaj

Getting+Fraternal+with+Nicki+Minaj

When thinking of topics to focus my column on, I spend a lot of time scrolling through the nearly nine hour long playlist that I have created. My goal this time was to find the artist that had the most songs on the playlist. In previous columns, I have talked about how Taylor Swift and Pitbull have quite a lot of songs on the playlist, and I was under the impression that one of them had the most songs. However, there is one artist that takes the cake on that, and one I did not really think would. But with the sheer amount of features that she has on songs, Nicki Minaj, The “Queen of Rap,” holds the top place with a total of 10 songs.

What makes Nicki Minaj so appealing to all audiences is quite literally just the fact that she is Nicki Minaj. She has recorded songs with any artist that you could possibly think of, so there is at least one song by her that any given person can vibe with. On the playlist, I have featured four songs that are solely hers, and six other songs that she is either featured on, or that she shares with another artist. These features take Nicki’s already amazing songs to another level that allows us all to get hyped up.

The four songs that are solely hers that I have chosen to include are “Starships,” “The Night

Is Still Young,” “Super Freaky Girl,” and “Super Bass.” All amazing songs, right? The addition of her older hits was completely intentional as a way to appeal to the nostalgic feelings of the party audience. (Check out my first column post for more about nostalgia in party music!!) By adding “Super Freaky Girl,” we have one of her more current hits included, which allows our playlist to keep up with the times, and let’s be real, who doesn’t love that song? Sometimes we just have to channel our inner F-R-E-A-K at these parties, and so be it! It’s a great experience for all of us.

For the songs that are collaborations, we have “Bottoms Up” with Trey Songz, “Where Them Girls At” with David Guetta and Flo Rida, “Beauty And A Beat” with Justin Bieber, “Only” with Drake, Lil Wayne, and Chris Brown, “Princess Diana” with Ice Spice, and “Barbie World” with Ice Spice and Aqua. Once again, her CLASSICS really bring in the sense of nostalgia. Nine year old me was turning up to Beauty And A Beat like it was nobody’s business, and I still am at age 20! Always keeping an eye out for Selener, even at these frat parties. You never know where she might be, but we listen to Nicki’s features on this amazing set of songs to keep calm and keep it moving. Her collaborations with Ice Spice bring newer rap artists to the scene, and who doesn’t love Ice Spice? The People’s Princess and the Queen of Rap together result in good vibes all around.

Nicki’s impact on how we turn up is indescribable, and the least we can do is have her as the top artist on this party playlist. The queen of rap can truly unite the party, make the girls, gays, and the frat guys shake their asses, and ensure that everyone is having a great time. Long live the Queen of Rap!!
