Indietronic synthfest with a beat
The Chain Gang of 1974 is (spoiler!) just one man, Kamtin Mohager- but this guy has enough tricks up his sleeve to act as 5 people. Daydream Forever was an effort between Mohager and producer Isom Innis, who is best known for his work with Foster the People. The influence of Innis and Mohager’s years as a bassist are prevalent throughout the album, keeping a heavy bassline and low synth beat pounding under every song. Innis’ contribution is more noticeable in the vocal aspects, with poppy and repeating background harmonies and the persisting slight warp on the lead vocals to make it sound just a little otherwordly. As a whole, the album sticks to its west coast roots and the dominant trend of smooth vocals paired with music that makes you want to move. Daydream Forever is a perfect background soundtrack for low-key or mellow mixes, but still have a hit of groove.
