It is a well-known fact that I am a fan of Ryan Hemsworth, especially within the WVAU community. I reviewed his album Guilt Trips and his concert in D.C. this past October. åÊHemsworth is an artist and producer from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and has a gift for choosing artists to rhyme over his beats. For “Spotless,‰” co-produced by Diana Maria (aka Little Cloud), he selected three talented rappers: Sasha Go Hard, Tink and Kitty.

“Spotless‰” is on a mixtape called Out of Towner Vol. 1. It’s in a series of mixtapes that profile certain cities. Producer Druture, nÌ©e Drew Kim, is compiling the mixtapes and is hoping to present the character of a region through music. The first installment highlights Chicago rappers. In a recent interview with Fact Magazine he says “Chicago was the obvious first choice because nothing has been more exciting to me than the whole young Chicago/Drill movement.‰”

The single has drill and downbeat components, but the true stars are Sasha Go Hard and Tink. “Spotless‰” opens with an unobtrusive piano section followed by an introduction from Sasha Go Hard. She raps confidently over looming beats and snappy percussion noises. I particularly like her lyric, “He‰’s into…clubbing, that‰’s half of the reason I don‰’t want a husband, I‰’m out getting money, he‰’s out getting drunk.‰” She reminds listeners “Go Hard‰” is a true independent woman.

Sasha Go Hard is a 21-year-old Chicago-based rapper with three mixtapes, the most recent being, Round 3, Hosted by DJ Victoriouz. The mixtape includes production by Diplo and verses from Le1f and Kreayshawn. She has gained popularity in 2013 and works in the same circles as Chief Keef and Fredo Santana.

Tink responds to Sasha Go Hard on the track and is the person who sing-raps “spotless.‰” Her voice is unique and does not remind me of any other artist. Her flow inspires head-swaying and shoulder leaning. Trinity “Tink” Home is also from Chicago and comes from a family of musicians.

Kitty (Pryde) is a rapper from Daytona Beach, Florida and recently relocated to NYC. Her single “Okay Cupid‰” was number 17 on the Rolling Stone’s “Top 50 Songs of 2012.” Kitty was an opener on the “Old & Reckless‰” tour with Danny Brown. Her presence on “Spotless” is the hook where she says “end of discussion.‰” Sasha Go Hard, Tink and Kitty are original artists and gelled perfectly on “Spotless.‰” Ryan Hemsworth and Little Cloud provided a catchy backdrop to complement their skills.
