Dum Dum Girls – Too True (Sub Pop)

Dum Dum Girls - Too True (Sub Pop)

Katie Cheyne

A more optimistic, extended edition of End of Daze.

The five songs that compiled the Dum Dum Girls‰’ EP, End of Daze, released two short years ago was a small gift to the music world, with each song serving as an anthem. The group has returned with a full-length album exhibiting a much more light-hearted outlook of the world. The album sounds remarkably similar to earlier releases from Best Coast, displaying most characteristics of a solid noise-pop album. “Cult of Love‰” is not the most memorable start to the album; it‰’s a little more eccentric and seems to stray away from the style of the rest of the songs. Thankfully it is followed by “Evil Blooms‰” which signifies the Dum Dum Girls‰’ return by unveiling their whimsical vocals, a couple awesome guitars playing some generic melodies in the background, and simplistic drum fills. The last song on the album, “Trouble is My Name,‰” has a slower tempo, but unlike the themes in the previous EP, it is more of a revelation than about devastation and confusion.
