Under the Tide: Greg Laswell

Ingrid Michaelson is probably a name everyone has heard at some point of their life. The focus though, isn‰’t on this pop belle who has charmed many of our hearts.

Her significant other, Greg Laswell, has an extensive repertoire that has charmed my heart more than Ingrid can and will ever do. So, when he decided to release an addition to his work this month, I was feasibly excited. This euphoria slightly faded when I realized it was a rework of his old songs and a few covers to boot. It didn‰’t disappoint me though.

Laswell, who hails from San Diego, has been gracing our airwaves with his acoustic-styled pop which has been featured on many television shows (Somehow I have an obsession with artistes whose songs get airplayed on TV series), is horribly underrated in my opinion. If you are a fan of Ingrid, Laswell will probably suit your palate. Think Mraz and Sheeran as borderline similarities.

My favorites from Greg are “Comes and Goes (In Waves),” “Landline,” “December,” “How the Day Sounds,” and then some more. Off his recent release, I Was Going To Be An Astronaut, is a spectacular take on Sparklehorse‰’s single which brightened up the recent snow days, a perfect ode to the beautiful scenery, and is my choice track from the album.

“Come Back Down” (ft. Sara Bareilles):

Rounding off is this collaboration with Bareilles from Landline. Not my favorite song because I feel he can do better (as evidenced), but makes a good promotional single. Greg performs at the U Street Music Hall on the 28th of February. Tickets have been sold out, but if you are determined to see him, you can probably pay way above value for it. I know I will.
