Yin and yang of a soft female voice and electronic beats

From the first sound of Priscilla Ahn‰’s voice, you think this is going to be another mildly charming indie acoustic female song writer type noise. The polished sweetness of Priscilla‰’s voice demands something extra to set her apart as something more original, and she does just that by recording over an interesting combination of soft acoustic strumming, perfect two part harmonies, and some funky electronic instrumentals and beats. They don‰’t quite blend, but I‰’m not really sure that she meant them to. “I Can‰’t Fall Asleep‰” seems to be the best mix of typical acoustic sing songwriter with a more creative second half, while “Remember How I Broke Your Heart‰” is another pretty song, both lyrically and musically. But tracks like “This Is Where We Are‰” and “Wedding March‰” just feel awkward and forced. If the whole album was like “Loop‰” and “Your Name‰” it would be wonderful; unfortunately it ends up being more like a box of surprises, not in the fun way.
