DC band Cigarette has described themselves as a spiritual band, however they are better described as a spiritual movement. Cigarette creates a level of discreet music that speaks volumes, transcending what some consider minimal. Much like modern art, which on the surface seems simple, but upon closer inspection is laced with intricate details. It is these intricate details of Cigarette‰’s sound that separate them from just another modern experimental band. Their latest album, Gush, is hauntingly deep and honest filled with a beautiful vulnerability turning a sad memory into a lovely line let loose and turned to hope. For example, “Do, Find My Love‰” starts off as a tender plea for what one might think is a lost love but later evolves into a seductive dance. The song is laced with hints that love is not so much a pursuit, but rather a challenge, as it is the beholder keeping it in the dark. A love song reaching the true depths of the heart.
