Punchy Rock and Roll

“Shiner‰” is a 4 song EP by the fairly new band Mainland who have assembled from New York, California and Texas. The four person band makes fast rock and roll music with the use of classic rock and roll riffs and add in synths that give the music a more new and pop feel. The lead singer, Jordan Topf, has a similar vocal style to the lead singer of the Kooks, Luke Pritchard. The songs on the EP like the title track, “Shiner‰” are also just generally very similar to the Kooks with the way the choruses are set up and the funky guitar solos thrown into a lot of the songs. Overall I thought the EP was pretty mediocre. Nothing really blew me away lyrically or with even with the songwriting. If you‰’re into new rock and roll music I would recommend this be I don‰’t think the band is really adding anything new.
