A wavy, soulful expression of self

In a journey to create the most personal expression of music, Gabriel Garzün-Montano has put every aspect of himself into his debut EP, “Bishoune: Alma del Huila.” Each strum of the bass, each shake of the tambourine, each note is filled with his emotion, and it shows. His sound, through instrumentation and voice, is an embrace of warmth and soul. The EP‰’s opening track, “6 8,‰” begins with stomps and claps joined by an otherwise unaccompanied, vulnerable voice. After slowly joined by a piano and bass, Garzün-Montano has created a listening experience that builds throughout the album. By the end of the EP in “Me Alone,‰” the sound morphs into a deconstructed NeoSoul jam with a strong lyrical focus. Garzün-Montano repeats lines like “Puffy lip from the spider bite‰” and “I know that the grass is greener where the angels be,‰” in a funky, emotional, fashion. “Bishoune: Alma del Huila” is beautifully crafted with every detail growing towards Gabriel Garzün-Montano‰’s grand image.
