I don‰’t want to say that “Jerk Ribs,‰” the newest single by Kelis, is “life changing,‰” but whenever I try to describe this single, that is all I can say. The single features blaring horns, jiving bass, and a heartfelt sound leaves me wanting more from Kelis. Her lyricism holds expressive, emotional storytelling. She reminisces on her childhood in the single with “When I was a girl, my daddy was my world/ He played the notes and keys/ He said to look for melody in everything.‰” The single features remixes by the jive-inspiring Mount Kimbie, the dance-inspiring Ben Pearce, and others. Definitely give “Jerk Ribs‰” a listen, but be prepared to be longing for a full album from Kelis.
