Bear Hands – Distraction (Cantora)

Bear Hands - Distraction (Cantora)

Anna Walsh

Edgy, creative indie-pop.

Bear Hands‰’ newest album has all the best qualities of indie pop. The album opener, “Moment of Silence‰” builds into an upbeat, passionate dance-y track with positive lyrics. Then, the band launches into several edgy tracks with a focus on driving basslines and catchy, airy choruses. Unique to “Distraction‰” though, are the undertones of electronic, almost hip-hop beats and a thoughtful use of reverb. Themes of love, friendship, and the meaning of life allow the album‰’s dynamic sounds and moods to be cohesive and fitting. The album closes with the mellow “Thought Wrong,‰” a break-up ballad that weaves in creative percussion among the heartfelt lyrics and delicate vocals. Overall, Bear Hands‰’ second full-length album proves they can hold their own as an indie-pop band with innovative ideas.
