Sibille Attar ‰ÛÒ Sleepyhead (Never Better)

Katie Cheyne

An eccentric, Swedish singer-songwriter.

If you are in search of a singer-songwriter who will help you get in touch with your inner emotions, Sibille Attar may not be the artist for you. The majority of her songs are quite exuberant despite the dark themes found within her lyrics. “Alcoholics‰” was the first single released over two years ago, and is one of the best tunes on the album. “All my friends are alcoholics, probably the same‰Û_I find it hard every month, I fall apart‰” are the opening lyrics to the track and once Sibille Attar takes a breath, upbeat piano and guitar melodies cut in, with a great kick drum beat. This strangely optimistic tone is later joined by her singing “la la, la la, la la, la la‰” giving off the impression that she doesn‰’t care about what her problems may be. Sibille Attar is just living from day to day, allowing things to fall apart as they may. That is what this album in its entirety embodies. There is an undeniable quirkiness, which is very refreshing, but it may take a few listens to grasp it and even admire it.
