Eden Fine Day ‰ÛÒ Things Get Better (Team Clermont)

Katie Cheyne

Dee Dee Penny meets country-pop.

In the opening track, Eden Fine Day sounds like just another ordinary indie pop, female-fronted band; exuding a very similar style to Dum Dum Girls, Vivian Girls, La Sera (etc.) By incorporating a banjo, and making the twangy vocals more prominent in the third track, the album seems to turn into more of a country-pop record. This stylistic shift continues on for the next few tracks before returning to the original pop-oriented style beginning with “Oh, Boy!‰” The lyrics are vague, and not the most inspiring, but the guitar riffs are pretty intricate, and fill the empty spaces in all of the right places. There is an odd, dreamy synthesizer playing spontaneously in the background, which is a little unexpected and doesn‰’t correspond with the first half of the album. There is a lot going on in Eden Fine Day‰’s most recent release, including a full orchestra backing up the band in the last third of the songs. Whereas in some releases this works really well, it seems to disrupt the steady flow of this album.
