Cherry Glazerr ÛÒ Haxel Princess (Burger)
February 28, 2014
An enjoyable, if not remarkable, half-hour of lo-fi pop
On Haxel Princess, Cherry Glazerr check off all the points seemingly required for modern lo-fi Californian pop acts. They’ve got the sweet female vocals, lyrics that alternate between self-aware and hilarious (Highlight: “Rob Kardashian’s a toolÛ), and an overall dreamy vibe about them. Yet, despite a strong three-song run to start things off and a brief total running time, there are still stretches where Haxel Princess drags. Luckily, Cherry Glazerr do excel when they’re either at their snottiest (the rollicking title-track) or their most direct (“Bloody Bandaid,” which features the stupidly perfect lyric, “You didn’t like me as much as I liked you/So fuck you). These highlights show enough promise to not just keep Cherry Glazerr on your radar, but also to give them a spin on your show.
