Marching Band - So Much Imagine (U & L Records)

Anna Walsh

Ambitious undertaking from indie-pop duo that covers a lot of ground successfully.

Swedish band Marching Band‰’s newest album, So Much Imagine, is an ambitious, lengthy masterpiece. Among the 21 tracks, there are catchy pop anthems, mellow ballads, and completely experimental elements. The overarching genre could be called indie-pop, but to label So Much Imagine as just one category would be unfair. The album shows the band on a deeply introspective, soul-searching journey that manifests itself in the relatable and profound lyrics. Emotions range from blissful to downright angry, with dreamy guitar melodies and punchy percussion, respectively. With such a huge magnitude of songs, one might expect this album to be all over the place, which makes it all the more impressive that Marching Band was able to keep this album cohesive and that each song has substance. Although you‰’ll have to set aside some time to appreciate this album, it will be time well spent.
