Catchy, light, and technically impressive debut album.

Texan band Colleens show promise of being a light, intelligent indie pop band with their debut LP Wild Dreams. Much of the album centers around love, whether it is seeking it, having it, appreciating it, or cursing it. While this might sound monotonous, fear not, because Colleens use a variety of musical elements to spice up their sound and make you enamored with the lyrics. Delicate pop melodies permeate the album, but they are often matched by crashing percussion to keep an edgy vibe. Many choruses are dangerously catchy, but well-balanced by more somber tracks like “No Flowers‰Û. Guitar work on this album is impressive in its variety and ingenuity, and the use of piano and strings are a great touch. Overall, Colleens have crafted an outstanding debut album, and any future work from them should be much anticipated.
