Battleme- Future Runs Magnetic
March 19, 2014
Smart, simple cross-genre album.
Anyone that heard Battleme’s 2013 EP Weight on the Brain was left wishing for more, and the full-length answer to the prayers is Future Runs Magnetic, an edgy and dynamic album. Ranging from dreamy and experimental indie to post punk, this album covers a lot of ground with catchy choruses and rolling basslines. While most of the album seems like a personal narrative, Battleme gets particularly introspective on “Cobweb PortraitÛ, a power pop ballad with carefully crafted guitar melodies over pretty piano chords. Simple guitar riffs and percussion are zested up with electric elements and airy vocals. Overall, Battleme fuses indie and power pop in such a way that you hardly notice they’re seemingly opposite genres.
