Last Friday the announcement of The Black Keys’ newest album Turn Blue was made on boxing legend Mike Tyson‰’s twitter account. Then, three days later, two videos were released, one being a teaser for the Turn Blue and another featuring The Black Keys’ first single since single 2012‰’s “Baddest Man Alive‰Û.

Along with the new album being produced by band members Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, it is also a product of producing guru Danger Mouse.

While it has been two years since The Black Keys have released any in studio material, their new single “Fever” lacks many of the blues and garage rock influences that have become trademark sounds for The Black Keys.

Instead of reviving the Sonics and other distorted rock sounds of the 1960‰’s it seams that they have expanded their sound to a wider audience. Just like much of Arcade Fire‰’s Reflektor, the single seems to tap into a much more general crowd with drum and bass riffs that would be safe to classify under dance music. Even though “Fever” is just one out of the 11 new tracks on Turn Blue, the album for now, is shaping up to sound very different from The Black Keys’ 8 other studio albums.

In addition to the new single, a teaser video was also released on YouTube. It follows a bad hair day hypnotist, who tries to hypnotize the viewer and discusses entering the ones “pines” or vagina in order to, “breath light into your hopelessness‰Û. Along with his words, the crazy bad hair day hypnotist also leaves the viewer with a loud chuckle that could be easily compared with the faceless cartoon villain from Inspector Gadget.

Turn Blue is scheduled to release Tuesday, May 13th.
