Relevant rhymes over lavish world-inspired beats

Chimurenga Rennaissance is technically a side project of Shabazz Palace‰’s Baba Maraire as well as Hussein Kalon, but this offshoot definitely holds its own musical merit. Plain and simple: There is a lot going on in riZe vadZimu riZe. Most of the tracks feature intensely layered beats, so much so that at one point, during my first listen through, I had to make sure that I was not playing two tracks at the same time. But in the end, it‰’s the album‰’ deep layering that draws me in especially in tracks “The B.A.D. Is So Good‰” and “Nobody Think Nomo.‰” Chimurenga Renaissance takes a variety of world music with a focus on Africa and mixes it with sick electronic beats and significant rhymes to create a characteristically unique sound. This is one of those albums where the listener can get moving and jam.
