Just over a week after The Black Keys’ newest single, “Fever,‰” was released, Jack White released “High Ball Stepper‰Û. In addition to his latest track, White also announced the release date of his new album, Lazaretto.

While this has not been our first sighting of musical activity for White, due to the release of The Dead Weather‰’s EP last January, it is the first single White has released since the lead up to his first solo album Blunderbuss.

Although just an instrumental track, “High Ball Stepper” sounds like what would happen if you played Blunderbuss backwards. Filled with distorted guitar riffs along with screeching vocals in the background, “High Ball Stepper” is — in a good way — a backwards instrumental nightmare.

The music video, directed by Ben Swank and James Cathcart, resembles “High Ball Stepper“‰’s instrumental element. While the colors red and white were emblematically representative of the White Stripes, this video features Jack Whites solo colors, white, black and blue.

Visually limited to the same colors, the video displays what looks like a mixture of cornstarch and water reacting to the sound waves of an old stereo system. The video is almost as visually pleasing as the song is musically composed.

Lazaretto will be released the 9th of June under White‰’s label, Third Man Records.
