Panama - Always EP (Future Classic)

RX: feel good grooves

Aussie electro-pop lads, Panama, have found the cure for the winter woes with the perfect prescription of dreamy dance beats and ready-for-sun remixes that will have you up and going in no time. Once the burnt orange chord progressions of opener “Always” begins, their effect is immediate. It has been so long since irresistible beats like these hit the market; a multivitamin of sorts it has perfect proportions of uplifting electro pop, downplayed disco tone and remixes that add that enhance the flavors. There’s no doubting how addicting this EP is right now, but some might be skeptic of whether or not it’s a truly natural product. “Always” sounds a lot like Miike Snow, “How We Feel” is very Calvin Harris meets Toro Y Moi, “Destroyer” opener channels College’s “A Real Hero” and curiously changes course. But the energizing sounds surely trump any questionable similarities; inviting and effortless, the EP does the job it’s meant to and listeners should just accept that. While the EP’s first half acts as an extended-release of energy, it takes effect by the remixes that finish off the EP like Classixxx’ club version of “Always”, the most sun-soaked sing along-able track which has just the right amount of tropical synths, baselines and falsetto to brighten any day. Panama sounds pretty put together and they seem to know what we need, a little too well.
