“World‰’s Loudest Band‰” isn‰’t so loud right now.

Significantly mellowed out and more monotonous than their first two albums, charged, melodic guitars take a back seat to more prominent percussion and drier vocals. Without a doubt the San Francisco shoegaze outfit still holds up its dgaf attitude.

Their sound still breathes that chill of not looking back once you‰’ve gone. And there‰’s still a lot of noise, don‰’t worry. It just seems sleepier. What might disappoint Whirr fans is the record‰’s pace. If you like Whirr, you‰’ll be able to hold out and listen to the record in its entirety, but for those unfamiliar with their love for distortion and piercing guitars , the sound is more repetitive than this genre tends to be about for the most part.

Maybe the loss of female vocalist Kristina Esfandiari can be to blame. Who knows. Fan or not, check out “Lines‰” which starts off like the others but quickly picks up to the empowering groove that Whirr fans initially latched onto. This band will probably be around for a while longer; let‰’s hope what comes next is written after a clearly much needed nap.
